The whole $15.1 million project breaks ground the first week of June and is expected to last at least two years. In rehabilitating the historic bridge, the city Department of Public Works will preserve as much as the original limestone as possible, replace the road and sidewalks, and add guardrails between vehicular traffic and pedestrians. The 30th Street bridge over the White River, built in 1907, was listed in "poor" condition in the Federal Highway Administration's National Bridge Inventory in 2020. A major closure is on the horizon for one of Indianapolis' oldest bridges.
